My love affair with beautifil silk continues.. last year I used avacado to dye a length of silk to paint as a hanging for my Fiesta exhibition. I had forgotten how connected I am to this process, developed over the years of creating one of a kind pieces when l ran my market stall. After my move to my Leichhardt treehouse, l dyed a little more silk for a special cactus commission and a spare piece to play on/experiment with. The experimental piece gathered a memory of almost every plant that flowered in the garden and those that filled my vases over a month or two. Poppies were a big favourite!
I imagined the silk as paying homage to the adventurous botanists and artists who travelled the world in times gone by, their pioneering spirit gifting the future with beautiful artworks on time-worn papers (there’s that pioneering spirit theme again!). Images of sepia toned palm trees danced in my mind. I began to paint again. I am painting still..
Explorations on Sea Charts
A beautiful gift of a collection of vintage sea charts has given me the opportunity to explore, paint, pattern, draw and collage with fascination and creative abandon. There is a story book of ideas growing here and I am excited to see where these beautiful charts will take me next. My next exhibition of work is underway.Charts
In 2017 l began creating a series of collages with paper I had hand painted with watercolour. The works quickly evolved to become my ‘Magical Landscapes’ as I embellished them with flights of fancy, intricate patternings and layers of detail. I see the world and life as a layered wonder and so it feels right to layer my work to show its exquisite richness and depth. Archival quality prints of these works are now available
